a foreigner’s take
on US race relations
plus a good story
Hey hey! Second book club selection! This was a great novel, and I highly recommend it. The weirdest (though not particularly surprising) thing I’m discovering about books written by non-white or non-American authors is THE UNIVERSAL APPEAL OF A GOOD STORY! Like, when said out loud, it’s pretty much the most obvious of statements, yet somehow we group all of these into a category labeled Other, and fear that they’ll be difficult to understand. That wasn’t the case here. I was able to fully identify with the author while also recognizing that her experience of the world is different from mine. I’m so thrilled to discover a new author!
