Remember a few months ago when I read Jules Verne for the first time and couldn’t even handle how much I disliked it? Well, I temporarily forgot, which is my only explanation for reading this.
But I’m glad for that lapse, because I enjoyed this story. And though the characters didn’t grow or change much during the course of the tale, and once more there was a servant single-mindedly devoted to the narrator, Nemo was sufficiently complex (and creepy) to keep me interested. I am so curious about his back story, and research tells me that there is another book that explains more! If I can find that one for free, I’ll check it out, but otherwise I’ll be parting with Jules Verne for a while.
