Why are you reading this book?
Great question. I’m not even sure I can remember why I have it. It came through paperbackswap – a random connection, something I added to my queue after reading another one of the author’s books. (Perhaps someone told me they liked this one better?)
I held onto it for a while, not really motivated to pick it up. Then, in complete violation of my Rules For Life, I found the movie version on Netflix and watched it. Before reading the book. Honestly, I expected it to spoil the book, and to confirm that I didn’t want to read it at all. But I was wrong. The story was so creepy and compelling, I had to move the book to the top of my list.
What is the first line?
My name is Kathy H.
Describe the book in haiku form:
a young girl’s journal
reflecting on her school years
it’s not what you’d think
What will you do with it now?
keep for reference
x keep and loan out to friendsx
keep to read again & again & again
post to paperbackswap.com
throw it away
Anything else you’d like to say?
I’d love to say more about the story, but I don’t want to spoil it.
Aah! I read this book in one (admittedly very long) sitting at a Barnes & Noble five or six years ago. It still haunts the edges of my imagination sometimes. I’ve never talked with anyone else who’s read it. (Have gotten strange looks when trying to describe it, though.) Maggie, we need to meet up someday and talk books.
We definitely need to meet up someday!
Also, if you don’t want to sit someone through the book, I think the film adaptation was great.
I’d forgotten there was a movie. Good to know it’s worth watching. I’ll put it on my Netflix!
And, I’m confident we’ll get to meet up. We’re nearer C’ville now, and hoping to make more trips up there . . .

Wait, Maggie, which did you like BETTER? For some reason, I feel very invested in the answer to this question.
I liked this one better. Are you the one who recommended it?
